The role of the father

Today I would like to discuss the crucial role that fathers play in children’s lives, especially in the early period known as symbiotic life, from birth to about two months.
“Developing the right kind of attachment during this period paves the way for natural detachment and psychological birth.” — Silvana Montanaro
The first two months are crucial for father-child bonding. Early bonding helps fathers establish a deep emotional bond with their child, build trust, and become attuned to their child’s needs. A father’s consistent presence and gentle care help the child develop a sense of security and protection.
When a father acts as a protective barrier, the period of symbiosis becomes a more positive experience for the child, building their basic trust in the world. However, a father’s role goes beyond protecting the mother-child relationship.
Fathers can enrich their child’s life by providing a variety of sensory experiences. They can participate in routine activities such as daily baths, changing diapers, holding, talking, and singing to the child. Skin-to-skin contact is especially important in establishing a strong bond.
After a positive period of symbiosis, the child develops trust and recognizes society as a place where their needs will be met. This foundation helps with natural separation anxiety later on.
Your love, support, and active involvement lay the foundation for your baby’s future development and happiness. The first two months are especially important for establishing a lasting bond. Thank you for everything you do!
